Inspirator and coordinator of the Multiculturalism & Migration Observatory. Researcher of the Centre of the Advanced Studies on Population and Religion (CASPAR). Associate professor at the Department of Internation Relations (Cracow University of Economics) and researcher in the Centre of Migration Research (University of Warsaw) specializing in the sociology of Islam, religious dimensions of migration studies and social movements in Europe and the Middle East. Dobrosława Wiktor-Mach
Researcher of the Center of the Advanced Studies on Population and Religion (CASPAR), coordinator of the Multiculturalism & Migration Observatory, assistant professor at the Department of International Relations at CUE. Associate professor and head of the Department of European Studies & Economic Integration at CUE, member of the Committee for Migration Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Adam Bulandra
Legal counsellor, vice-President of INTERKULTURALNI PL association, an independent researcher and an expert on criminology and migration policy. His research activity relates both to theory and practice and concentrates on voluntary and involuntary migration. His research interests are the nature of exclusion, their impact on individuals, exclusion as a factor influencing crime, incarceration policies as a tool for social control and redistribution of resources in the context of migrant communities. He was a participant and a leader of numerous projects related to migration. He co-authored „Open Cracow” programme. Co-author of the report Characteristics of the Multicultural Educational Environment in Cracow (2019).
Jakub Kościółek
Expert on Ukraine and cultural studies, a graduate of the Middle Eastern Studies. Researcher at the Faculty of International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University. The chairman of Interkulturalni.pl Association. Author of two monographs and several dozens of papers. His interests are related to intercultural and ethnic conflicts, cultural diversity – especially in the context of African cultures and the Polish migration and integration policy with a particular focus on local contexts and education of children who experienced migration. A Fullbright scholar at the George Washington University in Washington (2013/2014). Coordinator of a research team in a MiCREATE project – Migrant Children in a Transforming Europe (Horizon 2020). Co-author of the report Characteristics of the Multicultural Educational Environment in Cracow (2019).
Urszula Majcher-Legawiec
An experienced teacher of literature and the polish language for foreigners. Advisor on multiculturalism in Cracow. She has taught the polish language to adult foreigners for many years. At the moment she is mainly focused on the education of children and youth with migration experiences. Mrs Majcher-Legawiec has cooperated with the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ran a school for children of Polish origin in Lisbon. Since 2017 she has been a member of an Interdisciplinary Team for cooperation on the implementation of the „Open Cracow” programme. She also cooperates with the Centre of Research on Education and Integration of Migrants at the Pedagogical University in Kraków. She has authored and co-authored qualification language tests for foreigners and educational materials. Janusz Mucha
Co-creator of the Multiculturalism & Migration Observatory, professor emeritus at the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology (AGH University of Technology). He is a member of the following committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences: Committee of Sociology, Committee of Ethnology and Committee of Migration Research. Professor Janusz Mucha is a member of the editorial boards of „Polish Sociological Review” and other journals. He is particularly interested in conflict and social change theories, theory and history of sociology, social anthropology, minority and ethnic relations – especially in the Central and Eastern Europe. Co-author of the report Foreigners at Cracow Universities (2019) and Mobilization of help to Ukrainian refugees in Krakow (2022).
Magłorzata Pamuła-Behrens
Researcher at the Institute of Polish Philology of the Pedagogical University in Cracow, specializes in roman languages and foreign language teaching in the early stages of education. Mrs Pamuła-Behrens is interested in bilingualism, education of migrant’s children, autonomy and individualization of the learning process, professional training for foreign language teachers and distant learning. She also coordinates postgraduate studies „Teaching Polish as a foreign language” and the Polish version of the European Language Portfolio for children at early stages of education. Marta Szymańska
Professor at the Pedagogical University in Cracow, a linguist. She works for the Institute of Polish Philology at the Pedagogical University. She is a deputy director of the Centre of Research on Education and Integration of Migrants and a director of post-graduate programmes on teaching Polish as a foreign language. She is interested in bilingualism, education of children who experienced migration, the teaching of the Polish language as the mother tongue or a second language. Marcin Stonawski
Professor at the Cracow University of Economics, demographer and statistician. He is the director of the Centre for Advanced Studies of Population and Religion (CASPAR). As an experienced researcher he has worked for Vienna Instutite of Demography, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Statistics Denmark and the Department of Sociology and Human Geography (University of Oslo). Michał Borkowski
Former secretary and communication coordinator of the Observatory of Multiculturalism and Migration. A graduate of International Economic Relations at the University of Economics in Krakow. Currently, studying at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Warsaw. He is interested in the cultural aspects of migration processes.
Patrycja Trzeszczyńska
Anthropologist and specialist on Ukrainian studies, works at the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of Jagiellonian University. Author of publications on anthropological research on diaspora, memory and migration. Interested in migration and diaspora, memory, ethnic minorities, diaspora-making processes in Central and East Europe. Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland scholarship holder, research fellow at University of Toronto (2014, 2015) and University of Alberta (2014, 2016). Researcher at the Center of the Advanced Studies on Population and Religion (CASPAR), assistant professor at the Department of International Relations at CUE. Member of European Sociological Association (RN35: Sociology of Migration). Author of scientific publications in sociology of ethnicity, migration studies and cultural anthropology. Co-author of edited volume “Rediscovering Kurdistan’s Cultures and Identities: The Call of the Cricket” (Palgrave 2018). Paweł Kubicki
Professor at the Institute of European Studies of the Jagiellonian University. He specializes in researching the socio-cultural aspects of urban development. Author and co-author of several dozen articles and five books devoted to this issue, including: Miasto w Sieci Znaczeń. Krakow and its identities (2010), New townspeople in new Poland (2011), Finding urbanity. Karolina Czerska-Shaw
PhD in the field of sociology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (2016). Her research interests include integration strategies at the local level and theoretical notions of multicultural vs interculturality and their reflection in politics and political / public discourses; transnationality and the effects of super-mobility among young people; migration and asylum policies within the EU. Co-author of the report The Relationship Between Foreigners and Public Services and the Development of ‘Nighbourliness’ in a “Globalizing” City: A Case Study of Kraków (2020) and Mobilization of help to Ukrainian refugees in Krakow (2022).
Elżbieta Mirga-Wójtowicz
Cultural animator, political scientist and researcher, graduate of the Jagiellonian University. Currently she is a PhD candidate at Pedagogical University of Cracow and an associate of Centre of Migration Research, University of Warsaw. She has almost 15 years of experience working in government administration in the field of implementation of state policy towards national and ethnic minorities, in particular implementation of integration policy towards Roma in Poland. In the years 2008-2014, Plenipotentiary of the Governor of Małopolska Province for National and Ethnic Minorities. In the years 2007-2017, she taught postgraduate Romani studies at the Pedagogical University in Krakow. Author of evaluation reports on Roma integration policy in Poland for the European Commission within the Roma Civil Monitor project (2017-2020). Co-author of the report Roma in Cracow. Past, Present, Future (2021).
Agnieszka Legut
PhD in Social Science, in the field of Sociology, graduate of English Philology and European Studies. Her research interests include broadly understood policies related to the phenomenon of migration, in particular integration policies in their local dimension. She conducted research, for instance, on Italian strategies for the integration of migrants. She completed postgraduate studies on Global Development at the University of Warsaw and Project Management at the Cracow University of Economics; also, numerous courses and trainings held by the UNDP, Council of Europe, Centro Studi ,,Medi” in Genoa as well as recently a course on the EU Immigration and Asylum Law and Policy at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Co-author of the report Expats in Cracow (2021).
Monika Szewczyk
PhD student at the Doctoral School in the Social Sciences at the Jagiellonian University. As part of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” program of the Jagiellonian University, she runs the project “Dynamics of the migration of the Carpathian Roma to the Western and Northern Territories. Pilot studies”. She is also a researcher in the “Transnational lives of Polish Roma – Migration, family and ethnic boundary making in changing European Union” conducted at the Centre of Migration Research at the University of Warsaw and financed by the Polish National Science Centre. Member of the Polish Oral History Society. Her research interests involve Roma migration, national and ethnic issues, the role of oral history in identity politics. She is involved in activities for preserving Roma culture, tradition and oral contents, including the role of the Romani language as a part of intangible Roma cultural heritage. Michał P. Garapich
PhD in the field of anthropology, researcher at the University of Roehampton and associate of the Center for Migration Research at the University of Warsaw. Author of several dozen publications and contractor of many projects and evaluation commissioned by British authorities, NGOs and London self-governments, such as Hammersmith & Fulham, Redbridge, Merton, Waltham Forest, Lewisham and Greenwhich. His expertise was aimed at preparing a methodology for the direct implementation of activities in favor of London activities, also for non-governmental organizations. Recently, the author of a report for the British Home Office, report of radicalization of Polish migrants (2020). Co-author of the report Roma in Cracow. Past, Present, Future (2021).
Svitlana Luchik-Musiyezdova
Sociologist, specialist in sociology of culture and art, qualitative research, project management. Interested in public health, migration studies, and education. Master’s degree in sociology has been received in V.N. Karazin National University, Kharkiv, Ukraine (2007), affiliation with Institute of Sociology, National Academy of Science of Ukraine (from 2007). Independent researcher. Wiktor Magdziarz
An associate at the Multiculturalism & Migration Observatory and a Research Assistant at the Center for Advanced Studies of Population and Religion at the Cracow University of Economics. Graduate from the London School of Economics and Political Science with MSc in International Social and Public Policy (research). Interested in the European regional and local policy, integration of the European Single Market, as well as migration policy, particularly from a multi-level governance perspective. His work focuses on research around European public policy. He has been involved in numerous evaluations and impact assessments for DG REGIO, EAC, or GROW of the European Commission, as well as for the European Parliament, or the Council of Europe.
