We are happy to invite you to our next Zoom seminar! Dominika Blachnicka-Ciacek (SWPS University) and Agnieszka Trąbka (Jagiellonian University) will speak about the role of sports initiatives in the integration of young migrants in Poland.
In recent years, Polish cities have become places of residence for many migrants of various origins and legal status. The ‘Empowerment of disadvantaged young migrants through smooth integration’ (MIMY, H2020) project raises questions about how they function in society, and about the challenges and factors contributing to the inclusion of migrants in local life. In our speech, we would like to consider the role of sports initiatives as, in our opinion, important but often overlooked in migration research, living spaces and social activity, which can support migrants in building social relations in new places and increasing their sense of participation and belonging. The analysis of selected sports initiatives in which migrants participate, as well as the challenges and barriers that limit this participation, will help us to formulate preliminary recommendations on the shape of integration programs that favor the integration of migrants into society and strengthen their relations with the local environment. Our speech will be based on the preliminary results of the ongoing qualitative research conducted as part of MIMA in two locations – in Warsaw and Trójmiasto.
Meeting will be held in Polish.
